May 24, 2009

Charlotte, NC— Anne Graham Lotz will receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Board of Trustees during commencement exercises at 10 a.m., May 16, at University Park Baptist Church in Charlotte. The Board will also confer 50 master’s degrees and 18 Doctor of Ministry degrees to Charlotte campus students at that time. These will be in addition to the 316 master’s degrees and 60 Doctor of Ministry degrees conferred May 9 during commencement exercises at the seminary’s South Hamilton, MA, campus.

In addition to receiving her honorary degree, Anne Graham Lotz will serve as the commencement speaker. Lotz is the daughter of famed evangelist Rev. Billy Graham and is the founder of AnGeL Ministries, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the distribution of Bible exposition through her speaking, tapes and books.  Prior to founding AnGeL Ministries, Lotz taught the Bible Study Fellowship in Raleigh, NC, which multiplied ten-fold under her leadership. The only woman to be a plenary speaker at several international meetings, she has spoken at conferences, seminaries, churches, and universities on six continents. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability. Her latest book is Just Give Me Jesus. She holds an honorary doctorate from King’s College.

A baccalaureate service will be held at 7 p.m., May 15, at University Park Baptist Church. The speaker for that service will be Dr. John H. Munro, Senior Pastor of Calvary Church, Charlotte. Prior to taking that position, Dr. Munro served for eight years doing ministry in Michigan. A native of Scotland, he practiced law there before moving to the United States to begin his theological studies. He received his M.A. and doctoral degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary.

University Park Baptist Church is located at 6029 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.
