Current Student Sam Ferguson

May 5, 2009

Sam Ferguson was coaching high school basketball in inner city West Philadelphia and serving on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) when he answered “a very specific call” to the pastorate. As a result, when Sam researched seminaries, his requirements were also very specific: a place where he would “be deeply rooted in God’s authoritative Word, sit under professors who cherish their relationship with Jesus Christ, and be prepared to serve God in the Anglican Church.”

Sam found just what he was looking for in the Anglican/Episcopal Studies M.Div. program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. “It has been wonderful.” Sam comments. “I am being molded spiritually and trained to think biblically through the strong emphasis on God’s Word. Academics are top notch, and I am amazed to find professors brought to tears while teaching the Bible.”

As a Fellow of the Pierce Center for Disciple-Building, Sam receives added spiritual formation through mentoring, Soul Sabbaths and weekly Soul Care groups. His Mentored Ministry in an Anglican church gives him exposure to parish ministry and continued growth in liturgical worship. “In a nutshell,” he says, “the excellence of Gordon-Conwell and the opportunity to train with local Anglican leaders provide a phenomenal foundation for a career in ministry."
