Gordon-Conwell Mourns Death of Alumnus Dr. Tom Little

August 9, 2010

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary mourns the deaths of alumnus Dr. Tom Little (MTS, ‘77), and nine other members of a medical team who were killed August 5th by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

An optometrist, Tom was leading a team from International Assistance Mission (IAM) to remote villages in the northeastern mountains in order to provide much-needed eye care for the region. He and his wife, Libby, have a home in Delmar, NY, but have lived mostly in Afghanistan since the late 1970s. They have three adult daughters, Molly, Nelly and Kattie. Their first grandchild will be born this fall.

“As a seminary community, our hearts go out to the families and friends of the 10 victims killed in Afghanistan,” says President Dennis Hollinger. “We particularly grieve the loss of Dr. Tom Little, who, as a Gordon-Conwell alumnus, had been inspired by the work and passion of Dr. J Christy Wilson, Jr. Before becoming a professor at Gordon-Conwell, Dr. Wilson spent 22 years serving in Afghanistan. Dr. Little was carrying on a great legacy.”
