Student Profile: Mark Hatfield

December 14, 2009

Mark Hatfield had a comfortable life as husband, father of four, active church member and co-owner of a successful construction firm–until he developed a hunger “to be more directly involved in the gospel commission of our great God.”

Sensing God’s call, he consulted his pastors and elders, and studied seminaries he could attend while still running his business. He chose Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte for its rich history, breadth of denominations, and class schedule. “When I looked at the weekend format, week-long intensives, distance learning and evening classes, I thought, ‘’s flexibility that really works.’”

Mark’s excited about his training for ministry in seminary– and on the job. “I’ve had great years and lean years, helped employees through difficult times, and dealt with administrative and financial issues. They’re great preparation for pastoral ministry because at the end of the day, are you going to love people, teach them and help them in their faith journey?

My passion is to shepherd God’s people and preach the Word.”
